Photo Diary || Coachella 2017

You may have noticed that I’m not shy and I prefer to do things BIG! So I didn’t only want to go to Coachella, I wanted to make a statement and I wanted to do it with fashion. I’m currently working on my guide and recap of Coachella, but there were so many cute photos that I decided to create a Photo Diary as well. Ā In this post, I’ll break down my looks and my inspiration.

Day #1: Fat Frida

If you read my blog regularly then you probably saw the post about Frida and why she is such an inspiration to me. I wanted one of my Coachella looks to pay homage to her. I know what you’re thinking, Flower Crowns, Bindis and Flash Tatts are so played out! In any other situation, I’d agree with you 1000% however, all of those things worked with my vision.

Frida was the best to ever wear a flower crown and it’s something that’s synonymous with her as an artist. Ā So I recreated her two braids and added multipleĀ floral headbands. She was also known to mix prints and use fashion to hide her flaws. Mixed floral prints, High-waisted pants, and a bikini top were my interpretation of this. There was a lot of talkĀ of culturalĀ appropriation and Bindis and IĀ plan on writing a separateĀ post about my feelings on this. However, Frida herself was often accused of cultural appropriation becauseĀ she commonly wore the traditional clothing of an indigenous culture that she was not a part of but very inspired by. I wore three Bindi’s in the shape of a triangleĀ to represent the third eye, a symbol Frida used in some of her art.

Day #2: Mother Earth

The second day was Earth Day, so I just HAD to go full Boho. My bestie and I decided that we wanted to wear crowns, so I ordered a crystal one and she made one with crystals, stones, and shells.

My complete look included my favorite Palm Print Bikini Top (if only I could wear bikini tops in public all the time!) Linen Pants, layers of gold necklaces and of course green lipstick!

Day #3: Love Not War

I’m a history buff. I’ve always loved studying the history of things. I think it’s one of the reason’s I like vintage shopping and thrifting. I did a little digging and found out that this year is the 50th anniversary of the Summer Of Love. Being a Bay Area native, The Summer of Love was a defining moment and created a lasting impression on the world that San Francisco was a city that valued Love above all. During the summer of 1967 over 100,000 young people connected in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury. In the summer of 2017, I was one of over 100,000 young people that connected in Coachella Valley, California.

It was quite a coincidence, right? I decided to look into iconic imagery from the Summer of Love to see if anything inspired me. And that’s when I saw it, a Woman holding a “Love Not War” sign. Although my art skills weren’t at that level, I decided to recreate the moment. And could there be a better time!? There are so many horrible things happening in the world and in the U.S. to be perfectly honest. So, instead of taking it to a negative place, I wanted to spread a little love to my fellow festival-goers.

Your girl is ALWAYS making new friends, so when this guy said he loved my sign and wanted to jump in the photo, I was all about it!

Poolside

When we weren’t Ā at the festival or sleeping, we spent our time cooling off by the pool. The donut floatie made it the perfect photo op!
