Trials of Starting a Subscription Service

You may or may not have noticed that I have a “Services” tab. I’ve had this idea for a while, to create an Exclusive Quarterly Subscription Service featuring my favorite fashion, beauty, and travel finds. If you follow me on Social Media then you know that I love to try new beauty products and accessorize for the GAWDS! My style can range from chic and classic to bold and statement making. It honestly just depends on my mood and what my laundry situation lookin’ like.

The Concept

I want to take my readers with me on my adventures. Not only through the written word or photographs. I want you to have something tangible as a memento. So I came up with the From Annette, With Love Box. The first thing I wanted to do was get a killin’ logo. I’d heard about this freelance site, UpWork and decided that I wanted to hire an artist there. I was also interested to see if it was something I might be willing to join as a freelancer. Long story short, No, and HELL No! I worked with two different designers with a sad budget of $20 each. I thought what I wanted was pretty easy, but I guess not. I ended making something super simple on Canva.

The Product

Then it was time to start researching product and coming up with a theme for my first shipment. South Meets West was one of the first ideas to pop into my head. I’m a California Girl, currently living in the South, so what could be better? I was also heading to Cali to see a few friends and go to Coachella. Then back down south for my summer job.  One of the first brands I contacted with Frolick Jewelry. Owner and designer Adrienne Wiley is a past client and friend. Her jewelry line is fun, fresh and affordable. She’s also an inspirational business woman and those are the kind of people that motivate me. So I pitched her the project and she agreed to design exclusive, handmade pieces that would fit my budget but give me bang for my buck.

Ethically made items created mostly by women is my focus. Since I’m in the states, it was really important for me to source things from within the U.S. So when I saw bookmarks made of antique maps, I had to contact the left coast located Instria Design. I love reading, especially when I’m traveling so what’s cuter than a bookmark made from antique maps?

Sometimes it’s good to know people. I have a friend that works at one of my absolute favorite beauty brands, Andalou Naturals. They were the first organic personal care line and have done so much for the natural beauty market and lobbying for healthier practices in the somewhat controversial “organic beauty market”. Andalou Naturals is an organic, cruelty-free, vegetarian and vegan, fair-trade and Non-GMO Project product that I’m thrilled to include in my South Meets West shipment.

My goal was to have everything made in the U.S., but I  found these REALLY cute gold boxes that were perfect! Right after I pressed purchase, I learned that they were coming from Thailand. Three weeks later, when they arrived, I realized they were too small. FAIL! So I ended up ordering some cute bubble mailer from good ole Amazon instead. At the end of the day, 90% of the items in this shipment were made in America.

The Final Push

Now, I have all of the items that will be included in the first shipment. I did a promotional photo shoot last weekend and I’m happy with the results. There are a few loose ends to tie up, but I’m nearing the finish line. The last thing to do is promote, promote, promote! As an entrepreneur, all you can do is put your heart and soul into something and hope, they love it. The time has come to present my curated baby and I hope you buy it and LOVE it!

There will only be 30 packages available for the South Meets West shipment. Packages are currently available to US residents only, but that will change for the next shipment as I will be shipping from Asia. Each package has a value of over $40 and will be sold for $20 plus shipping.  Sign up below!
