This is my favorite dress of all time. For everyone who asked, I ordered it online from @revolve a year ago for my beautiful friend's @morenahelado Texican wedding, but it was originally made in Guatemala. 🌈 It only fits in the mornings when I'm skinny and then I can't breathe for the rest of the day. But I'd rather suffocate than not be the ultimate Mexican blanket. #FashionOverDeath, amirite? 🌈 I believe the dress has been discontinued but working with a few shops to possibly have them remade. Will keep you posted!
•SCAM ALERT• Guatemala is only a $25, 5-hour bus ride from Belize City. BE WARNED. When you arrive in Guatemala, there's a man, who has been to jail 3 times, that pays the bus drivers $4/person to tell you to get on the "transfer shuttle" to Flores, Guatemala. But actually you're already in Flores. It's a complete lie. 😒 They wear badges and uniforms and will first take you to an ATM so that they know you have money. Then takes you to his "agency" to sell you tours and buses, saying there's only ONE option. Meanwhile, all of your stuff is still in the van. 🤔 I felt the bullshit being spit in my face, so I walked out of the shuttle and the mans smile disappeared real fast as he threw my bag at me. Whatever, you queen. But another girl wasn't so lucky. While she was buying a bus ticket and sunrise tour to Tikal, she got all her money stolen from her backpack that she left in the van, and also the tickets were fake. 😭 Don't get on the shuttle! Just go exploring. The city of Flores is super cute!
Some people carry a Kindle or IPad on planes, but when traveling sometimes electricity is a toss up. So I stick with old-school-paper-back-books. Plus I hate staring at screens on vacation!! Finishing my dissertation yesterday means NO MORE SCIENCE JOURNALS, GIMME ALL THE FICTION. 📚My go-to authors have been Toni Morrison, Junot Díaz, Isabel Allende, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and Paulo Coelho. What are your favorite books? Drop me your recs below! (Yes, I know this is a basic heavily arranged photo. I took it a year ago, don't judge me.)
Edward James was rumored to be the love child of a wealthy Scottish aristocrat and the prince of England. He inherited a fortune. He later married an Austrian dancer who left him because she said he was gay. 🌈 Often lonely, he became obsessive about building this garden that doesn't die. He was also a huge Surrealist art supporter and held the largest private collection of Salvador Dali art works. 👨🏻🎨 To pay for this 5 million dollar Surrealist garden in the jungle of Mexico made only by local artists, he slowly sold off his art collection. The intricate structures are all made of poured concrete, which required handmade molds. They're considered art works in and of themselves. He died with it unfinished and the state of San Luis Potosí bought it for 2.5 million dollars. 💰 WOULD I RECOMMEND IT: Not during the summer or Semana Santa. This place is hard to access. 5 hours from Querétaro down a snaky rode in the mountain that twists and turns and is the cause of many accidents along the way due to the constant mist. It was meant to be enjoyed in peace, solitude, and meditation. However, during Mexican vacation, it's a massive tourist trap of Mexican tourists. I did not enjoy it. It felt rushed and chaotic, even though it took 3 hours just to walk through half of it. At one point, a girl pushed past me, almost causing me to slip, but then God came through and 5 seconds later she busted her ass on the ground. 🤷🏻♀️ @sayaland told me about this place and said during November it was empty. She was also allowed to climb structures which have been closed since then due to deterioration. I'm glad I went, but I won't be back. 🌱
•NEW POST• This is me dressed up as Frida at the Mexican Art Exhibit. I am not Mexican but I am wearing traditional Mexican clothing. I am 100% culturally appropriating. Yet Mexicans and others alike were all cheering me on through the galleries and stopping to take pictures. When is it offensive and when is it not? Tap the link in bio to read How Not To Culturally Appropriate Like A Basic Bitch. This was a really difficult theme to write on without addressing many of the tangential social frameworks. So discussion, comments, and criticism are welcome. Thanks to those who wrote in explaining their feelings, and those who helped me edit and tone down my thoughts on Kylie Jenner. I'm ready for some trolls today!!
Due to the overwhelming response to @thegipsyjourney's story on finding a Cuban papi, I wrote a follow up post to answer all of your questions at once on how to communicate and what to expect with your Cuban papi. Apparently you're basic if you went to Cuba and didn't come back in a relationship, because a lot of women wrote in saying they're in the same situation.
