Lately, my life has been a whirlwind, in the best way possible! I’ve been doing the things I love most; traveling and meeting new people and it’s been exciting. From Miami to New York, San Francisco to Bangkok, your girl’s been on the go! On the way, I’ve seen some incredible things, met some amazing people and did a bit of fall shopping. All resulting in my Fall 2017 LookBook.
I recently invested in a new camera and tripods so I could take my photography game to the next level. As a solo female traveler, it can be difficult finding someone you trust to take photos of you. Obviously, anyone can press a button, but will they tell you if your necklace is askew or that you have lipstick on your teeth? That was one of the things I struggled with when creating my Fall LookBook. Just like my Summer LookBook, I put a lot of time into trend research, curating each look and finding the absolute best locations. And off I went, just a girl, her camera, and her tripod.
But I wasn’t loving the end result. So I reached out to a couple of my favorite fellow Plus Size Bloggers for help. Resulting in some of my best photos ever, if I’m being completely honest and 100% conceited. Here’s a look at my Fall 2017 LookBook and a little inside scoop on the trends, locations and fabulous people who helped me create it.
New York City
Self Portrait at NYC’s High Line.
Of course, I knew what the High Line was but I’d never had a chance to visit. It had been at least 5 years since the last time I’d visited Gotham City. So I wanted to shoot somewhere chic and cool that wasn’t a total cliché. While the High Line is somewhat of a tourist trap, it offers beautiful city views and manicured patches of greenery. Because it was so busy, it was difficult to take a photo that captured the city and the skyline sans the hundreds of people trying to do the same thing at the same time.

So I reached out to Sarah Chiwaya of Curvily. This curvy Manhattanite has been a source of inspiration for me and a friend in my head for years! So when she agreed to shoot with me, I was over the moon! Our plan was to meet at a Fashion Week event and then do a mini shoot.
The show was at Chelsea Piers, so I decided to head to the High Line first for some solo shooting. Then meet up with her so we could click a few shots for each other. The result; a cool unbothered look that chic and street.
The Look: Perforated Perfection
This fall is all about the details. Embellishments and embroidery are everything, but subtle details like this perforated sweater and shoes add femininity to my wardrobe without being too girly.

You probably already know that I’m from the West Coast and if you didn’t, WEST SIIDEEE! I grew up in the Bay Area and no matter where I go in this world, it will always be home. I took a break from family and friends to meet up with two bloggers that I consider Hometown Heros. Briana Hernandez of Mamafierce and Laurel Dickman. Both of these babes are Fat Feminists like myself and we are all contributors at Ravishly. We’ve been friends on social media for some time, but I was ready to take the next step and meet this ladies IRL (in real life). So we agreed to meet at SFMOMA for our shoot then grab lunch and gab about work and life. I couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
The Look: Crushed Velvet Underground
Velvet is a touch of luxe that every girl needs in her fashion arsenal this fall. It’s rich texture just begs to be touched and feels so good against your skin. I wanted to take a risk and wear this sexy bralette as a top. Visible belly line and all! I added a layer with a long-line vest and anchored the look with my new favorites, Lane Bryant’s Super Skinny Jean. This is one of my favorite fall looks because it’s sexy and edgy while remaining classic and casual. Special thanks to Lane Bryant and their NYC Times Square Team for providing this look and making me feel like a star while shopping!

As we posed in front of incredible pieces of art, it was easy to find the beauty in each other. I hadn’t visited MOMA as an adult, so it was fun getting lost in each exhibit. Spotting something that truly awe-inspiring and creating a moment and a memory through art and fashion.

The Look: When Mesh met Lace
Sheer layering for fall is key. Whether you want your look to be more modest or reveal your underpinnings is up to you. I went the sexy route (surprise surprise) but opted for a modest midi skirt in a faux leather fabrication with lace and mesh detailing. Trust me, this look turned some heads. But it’s important for me as a stylist and Fat Fashionista to show women in bigger bodies that we too can be sexy and on trend. Thanks to Mada Traders for providing this cute Cuff!

As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I’m not ashamed to say that I find myself beautiful. I also consider myself smart, honest and caring. One of the many amazing things my mom taught me is, if you don’t value yourself, no one else will. I want to share that message with you and encourage you to not only love the things you like about yourself but to embrace the ones you don’t. I also want to empower you to always continue working on yourself. No one is perfect, we’re all just works in progress. But if we’re constantly striving to do better, learn more, help others and be kind. We can change the world, together.
